HOW YOU CAN HELP

Volunteers are invaluable to the Food Bank. Without the almost 18,000 hours of volunteer help each year, the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana would be unable to provide food to the thousands of hungry in the community. Non-profit organizations depend on the generosity of the community in order to function. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities at the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana. It is our desire that we match volunteers with a task that suits their talents and interests.

Our Volunteer Handbook has helpful information and may answer most questions.  All volunteers will need to complete a Volunteer Waiver and Release Form.

Here are the opportunities that we currently have available:

Sorting Food and Packing Boxes for our Senior Program
Volunteers are needed to sort food, pack boxes and distribute food at our location at 285 Mt. Zion Road, Shreveport.  Learn how to sort food prior to coming to the Food Bank.  Watch our Volunteer Instructional Video here: View Video

Virtual Food  Drive or Non-Perishable Food Drive
Another way to help the Food Bank is to organize a virtual food drive with your church, school, office or other group.  Our virtual food drive allows your organization to shop on-line.  Our fund drive is the best and EASIEST way to help us.  We can turn a $1 donation into $10 worth of food.    Or, if you prefer to  conduct a non perishable food drive, we'll provide you with all the information to prepare you to put on your own food drive.

General Office
We are continually able to use help with general office duties such as filing, mail sorting, proofreading, and other miscellaneous office work. We always need extra help in our office area.

Maintenance
We often have odd jobs such as re-painting lines on our warehouse floor or cleaning the warehouse to prepare for annual inspection.

Volunteer at one of our Agencies/Food Pantries
Our agencies hand out food to their clients at least once a month and are always looking for volunteers to help. Please contact the Food Bank for more information about where your help is needed.

Volunteer to Deliver Senior Food Boxes
Help us by delivering a Senior Box to an elderly member of the community.  Each month you will deliver a 45 pound box of food to an elderly member of our community.  Volunteers are needed to deliver to three schools in Shreveport each Friday. If interested, please contact us at 318.675.2400 ext. 100.

Special Events
Various events throughout the year rely on help of volunteers to ensure a successful event

As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities for volunteer assistance. Please let us know what your interests are and when it is most convenient for you to volunteer. We appreciate your interest in helping eliminate hunger in Northwest Louisiana!  We ask that you call or email to schedule a time for volunteering.  Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator  at (318) 675-2400 ext. 115 or email us to schedule a day to volunteer.

The Food Bank can provide each volunteer with a record of their service hours.  These are used for fulfilling educational requirements, community service for minor offenses, demonstrating your active participation in our community and acknowledging your generosity.
