How You Can Help

Volunteers are invaluable to the Food Bank. Without the almost 18,000 hours of volunteer help each year, the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana would be unable to provide food to the thousands of hungry in the community. Non-profit organizations depend on the generosity of the community in order to function. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities at the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana. It is our desire that we match volunteers with a task that suits their talents and interests. Here are the opportunities that we currently have available:

Warehouse- Sorting and stocking donated food

Donated food needs to be sorted so we can stock it in the proper places within our warehouse.  Other activities include cleaning, wrapping barrels, organizing and helping with orders.

During the holidays we receive large quantities of mail every day. We always need extra help opening and sorting the mail. We also need help sending thank you letters to our donors.

General Office

We are continually able to use help with general office duties such as typing, filing, proofreading, and other miscellaneous office work. With training, volunteers can help enter donor information into our database.

We often have odd jobs such as re-painting lines on our warehouse floor or cleaning the warehouse to prepare for annual inspection.

Food drives

Another way to help the Foodbank is to organize a food drive with your church, school, office or other group.  We are always in desperate need of canned goods.  We'll provide you with all the information to prepare you to put on your own food drive.

Volunteer at one of our Agencies/Food Pantries

Our agencies hand out food to their clients atleast once a month and are always looking for volunteers to help. Please contact the Food Bank for more information about where your help is needed.

Special Events

Various events throughout the year rely on help of volunteers to ensure a successful event

As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities for volunteer assistance. Please let us know what your interests are and when it is most convenient for you to volunteer. We appreciate your interest in helping eliminate hunger in Northwest Louisiana!  We ask that you call or email to schedule a time for volunteering.  Please contact Gene Haynes, Community Coordinator at .(318) 675-2400 ext 115 or ghaynes@foodbanknla.org to schedule a day to volunteer.

**The Food Bank can provide each volunteer with a record of their service hours.  These are used for fulfilling educational requirements, community service for minor offenses, demonstrating your active participation in our community and acknowledging your generosity.**
